Bill, most definitely, did not make his point. For all his bravado before and immediately after he punches Eric, it’s completely sucked out of him by the last shot.
If the point Bill wanted to make was that he is a coward and a dick, then yes, he made it perfectly. He chose this moment, THIS moment when Eric is so clearly emotionally and mentally with his maker, who is about to kill himself. This moment, when it’s obvious to anyone with an ounce of attention that Eric is at a vulnerable point. He chose this moment to try and assert some kind of a claim? I won’t say “dominance,” because even Bill isn’t delusional enough to believe he has any over Eric.
What a small man Bill is. And I don’t mean his comparative size. I mean that he is petty, with a shriveled up little soul. So small in fact, that Eric can’t even be bothered to so much as react to this punch. He’s got bigger thing on his mind, bigger people to content with, bigger heartbreaks to face. Bill is just an annoying pebble under his shoe. “Get out of the way” is all Bill gets.
Yes, he is cowardly and small. He is also inept. As usual, he makes a move, yet, he is unable to achieve the desired outcome. He acts, but the results makes him look foolish, stupid, incompetent, etc., etc., etc. He’s futilely grandiose, always posturing for appearance’s sake and Sookie’s, but he is incapable of making smart decisions, of being strategic, of assessing a situation, of picking the battles he can win, and of not taking the chicken shit way out of things.
For Sookie’s sake? I admit I’m not at all charitable toward Bill, but I don’t think he’s ever truly done anything that was only for Sookie’s sake. Ulterior motives, people. No, I’d strike that from the above description and say “for appearance sake, to try to save face, and an excuse to act a complete ass.”

So true
If Bill had tried this any other time, he’d be in 50 pieces within seconds.
This scene always makes my stomach twist. Kicking Eric when he’s down is just so awful and highlights all of Bill’s...
